Aloha and welcome to St. John the Baptist Catholic School.

One of our main focuses for this school year is to integrate more technology into our curriculum to strengthen student autonomy and to help them develop greater collaboration skills with peers and community through project-based learning and problem-solving.  Technology integration takes years to mature.  We anticipate students will become more responsible with electronic information and will be successful communicators across all mediums.  Technology is a tool that must be formed to meet the needs of its users and is beneficial when used properly.

Our second goal is to help students develop healthy and powerful minds through proper nutrition.  Good nutrition is proven to increase students' focus, retention, and improve grades.  Hyperactivity, laziness, and many behaviors associated with ADD, ADHD, and Bi-Polar Disorder are often caused by poor diets.  By following USDA guidelines and by monitoring students' nutritional intake, teachers and administrators will strive to build students' health and brain power.  Parents must work with the school to help us achieve this goal for our children.  We only have their best interests at heart.

Our third goal for this school year is to incorporate a wide range of academic field trips that are kinesthetically and visually stimulating.  Although we have our annual Big Island weekend field trip and visit many local theaters, our school plans to increase utilization of O'ahu's gifts.  For example, the fifth and sixth graders will spend an all day adventure at Kualoa Ranch in October 2007.  They will be learning about how to manage wet kalo and will be exploring ancient trails and traditions.  Our third graders will be adventuring into the world of worms and vermicomposting.  These special India blue worms (Perionyx excavatusare) excellent recyclers and produce the richest compost.  The special compost will be used in our school garden, where we grow tomatoes, eggplants, cucumber melons, chives, cilantro, and stevia.

Thank you for taking time to learn more about St. John the Baptist Catholic School.  Our students are exceptional and our community is family.  We welcome all who join us to share in our learning environment and in our continuous drive to live as Christ lives, teach as Christ teaches, and love as Christ loves.  Together we can all learn and grow through Christ as we facilitate student learning and encourage them to strive for excellence.

God Bless!
